Race day 1!

The race officially started this morning at 12pm in Alliance, Nebraska.

Tons of people from the town came out to watch everyone leave. We flew the departure flyby and continued enroute to Great Bend, KS. We chose a good altitude and passed 3 planes on that first leg.

Flew the timing line at Great Bend, landed, and were greeted by more locals who came out with snacks and cold water. Everyone has been super nice at each of the stops.

We did some planning, got fuel, and continued on to Borger, TX. Winds weren't as good on this leg so we stayed lower where they weren't as strong. It was a hot and bumpy 2 hr flight but we made it to TX. That's where we stopped for the evening. Again, greeted by some of the friendliest people I've ever met.

In fact, the guy that took us to our hotel told us that he had actually only come out to watch but was offering rides to anyone that needed it. Another guy told us that the terminal building was brand new and they had rushed the construction in order to get it done for the race.

Tomorrow we continue on with the last 3 legs of our race. Norman, OK is the next stop. Thunderstorms are a possibility so we'll be checking the WX earlyyy in the morning.
